Library Seeks Student and Faculty Comments On New Electronic Resources
Through its membership in the Community College Library Consortium, LBCC Library has been able to arrange temporary access to a wide range of new web-based databases which it currently is evaluating for possible addition to ProQuest and the library's other existing products. From now until the end of April (mid-May for some databases) students and faculty are invited to explore and use these "anytime/anywhere" scholarly resources:
EBSCO Information Services
Academic Search Elite (compare to ProQuest)
Health Source: Nursing (compare to Health Reference Center)
CINAHL (major index to Nursing/allied health journals, with abstracts)
Business Source Elite (full-text articles on business topics)
MagillOnLiterature and MagillOnAuthors (literary criticism)
Lexis/Nexis Academic
Access to over 6000 titles covering General News, Business, Legal Research, and Medicine, most full-text McGraw-Hill Access Science
The online version of Encyclopedia of Science and Technology and Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms; contains 2100 scientist biographies RAND California
Over 100 statistical databases covering California, many at the county, city, and zip code level; includes an online library of public policy collections from leading California research institutions OCLC FirstSearch
Explore PsycInfo and PsyArticles, for citations and full-text articles in leading psychology journals worldwide
Enter a book or video title in WorldCat and discover what libraries own it in the U.S. and abroad
Find scholarly criticism and citations for articles on language and literature in the MLA Bibliography
Sample and evaluate dozens of other databases on a wide range of subjects during this trial period
To try these and the library's other test products, visit the LBCC Library web page (http://lib.lbcc.edu). Click on "Online Databases," then (in the paragraph at the top of the screen) on the link to "Trial Databases."
Access from off campus workstations requires a user ID and password, available from the reference desk at either LBCC library.
After using them, the library invites student and faculty comments on these databases. On the LBCC web page, click on "Make a Suggestion" to provide evaluations of the test products and to recommend them for the library's consideration as possible acquisitions.
