Library Update #43 (September 14, 2007)
Classes, study, a job, family responsibilities—how can students find time to fit it all in and succeed in their educational goals? How can they learn the basic research skills that will enable them to use library databases and other resources to best advantage?
This year, with the LAC library relocated and downsized during renovation, that question may seem especially perplexing. Not to worry, though; students can choose two easy ways to learn about basic library tools and strategies that will help them produce better assignments and write more accurate and authoritative papers. During September and October they can select from a series of drop-in workshops scheduled at LAC and PCC libraries at various times Monday through Thursday.
Topics include:
- Internet Essentials/Web 2.0
- Voyager online catalog searching
- Opposing Viewpoints
- Evaluation of Web resources
- Research Using ProQuest
- NetLibrary e-books
- Researching Fine Arts/Art History

Students whose schedule can't accommodate a daytime workshop will discover several online tutorials and fact sheets on topics like those above that they can view and interact with online at any time and from any web-enabled computer.
