Library Update #41 (August 24, 2007)
Yikes! Most of the library's book collection is in off-site storage. So are videos and cd's. The magazine collection has been downsized too. How can students and faculty get the information they need for papers and presentations this semester, next semester, and beyond while building L is being remodeled and library services have been moved to the lower level of the Student Center (building E) and one of the new trailers on the quad (trailer TU)?
Here's how to survive, even thrive, during this disruption :
- Librarians are there to help, even 24/7:
- At the reference desk in B uilding E / Lower Level (along with many reference books)
- Through instant messaging, virtual chat, e-mail or phone (562) 938-4232 (LAC) or 938-3028 (PCC)
- See http://lib.lbcc.edu/services /ask.html for details and to connect
- The virtual library is at your service: thousands of magazine and journal articles, indexes, encyclopedias, e-books and other resources can be delivered to any web-enabled pc anytime/anywhere
- The reserve desk (building E) will continue to provide the books and articles that are assigned to all students in a class
- Library media and periodicals services are available for use in Trailer TU
- Obtain the books and articles you need from other libraries
- A reciprocal borrowing agreement with CSULB Library http://www.csulb.edu/library /guide/Reciprocal_Borrowers .html means that books and media can be checked out using a valid LBCC college ID; note that CSULB library also is under construction and some parts of the book collection are temporarily unavailable
- LBCC Library's Interlibrary Loan service will arrange the loan of books and copies of magazine articles from other libraries near and far http://lib.lbcc.edu/services /ill.html
