Once the library was…

·        a place where one could go to find books and journals

·        a storehouse

·        an information repository

Once it was possible to find pretty much everything one needed to complete an assignment or term paper within the library’s walls.

No more.

According to Dele Ukwu, Library Department Head, “the library as a place has given way to the library as conduit; “today’s LBCC Libraries are in the business of linking the campus community with all kinds of information resources—books, articles, media.  Some of it still is in printed books and journals, but much more is in electronic format, accessible to students and faculty 24 hours over the internet.”

The value and versatility of the information that used to reside in the physical library has been eclipsed by a burgeoning world of electronic   information that resides on servers near and far.  It’s information we’ve come to expect can be identified and retrieved quickly and efficiently from dozens of  newspaper, reference, and journal databases like, databases like:

·        ProQuest

·        Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center

·        Health Resource Center

·        Biography Resource Center

·        Ethnic Newswatch

·        ERIC

·        Encyclopedia Britannica

·        CQ Researcher

…and many others.  The library pays hefty annual subscription fees to these databases, enabling LBCC students and faculty to use them from any web-enabled workstation anywhere.

To explore these resources just point your browser to http://lib.lbcc.edu/ and click on “online databases.”  You’ll find a list describing each one and linking to it.

Because access is restricted to the LBCC campus community, passwords are required.  Obtain current passwords at the LAC or PCC Library reference desk by presenting a current student or faculty ID.  Voyager, the library’s online catalog, and a variety of other useful links also can be found on the library home page.
