Library Circulation Desk Acts to Minimize Delays
Weekday lines at the LAC Library circulation desk can snake far into the lobby and students queue up to check out books, ask for reserve items, and settle library obligations. Like other LBCC units providing support to the instructional program, the library is trying to do more with less in these times of budget constraint. At the circulation desk there simply are too few bodies to deal with the volume of activity at peak times.
To help address this situation, which causes annoyance and frustration for students and stress for library staff as they struggle to maintain weekday service at an acceptable level, effective Monday, March 1, 2004 the library no longer will provide change at its LAC circulation desk. Change is available at the vending area at the south end of the quad, at the Bookstore, and at the College Center when these areas are open.
With the recent adoption of stored-value copy cards for photocopying and computer printing, students find that they need less change than in the past, and having change available at the desk for those who need it tends to exacerbate delays and interfere with higher priority services.
