Workshop Topics:

  • Internet Essentials - Want to know the basics of navigating the Internet? Returning to school and want to brush up on skills? Set up an email account, learn about search engines and basic search strategies. If the Internet is something you would like to be more familiar with, come to this workshop for personalized instruction.

  • Voyager/Online Catalog Searching - Learn how to find books and other library resources using our Voyager catalog. What information should you be looking for when you search and once you find it where do you go from there? Emphasis on finding books in the LBCC library and surrounding libraries.

  • NetLibrary/E-books - LBCC has access to over 10,000 electronic books that you can access from your home internet connection! Learn how to search for and read e-books (electronic books). Create a NetLibrary account for yourself.

  • Research Using ProQuest - ProQuest is one of our most valuable research databases providing access to thousands of electronic journal and newspaper articles, many available in full-text dating from 1985 to present day.

  • Opposing Viewpoints - Do you need reliable resources for your argumentative paper or speech? If so, this is the workshop for you. In this workshop you will learn how to find magazine, newspaper, and scholarly journal articles, statistics, and otther data that are suitable for research, using such databases as ProQuest, CQ Researcher, Facts.com, and SIRS Researcher.

  • Researching Fine Arts/Art History - The Art Museum Image Gallery is an online collection of high-quality, digital documentation of works of art from around the world. Works from major European, American, and Canadian artists in the collections of member museums are included. Cultures and time periods represented range from contemporary art, Native American and Inuit art, to ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian works, along with Japanese and Chinese works. The database includes numerous multimedia files. Art Museum Image Gallery documents over 155,000 works of art. 

  • Literary Research - The Literature Resource Center on GaleNet is a complete literature reference database designed for both the undergraduate and graduate student as well as the sophisticated casual user. Rich in biographical, bibliographical, and critical content, the Literature Resource Center is the premier Internet resource for information on literary figures from all time periods writing in such genres as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, history, journalism, and more.

  • Evaluation of Web Resources - Want to use a Web resource for your research project/paper but you are not sure if its a reputable source? Learn how to evaluate Web resources for your project - what to look for to determine whether it is a reliable source to use or not.

  • Research Using Online Databases - The LBCC library subscribes to many online databases for your research needs. ProQuest, Opposing Viewpoints, Facts.com, CQ Researcher, and SIRS Researcher are some of our popular databases. Reference Librarians can take the confusion out of searching for your topic and show you how to easily navigate these databases!

  • Internet Essentials/Web 2.0 - What is the difference between a search engine and a subject directory? Which is better for research. Flickr, Blogs, MySpace, RSS, YouTube — do these terms mean anything to you? Come to this workshop and learn how to go from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0.
