  • Ask a Librarian

    • Chat live online with a reference librarian from a library that participates in the QuestionPoint 24/7 Reference Service. Note: Your question may not be answered by a LBCC librarian.
    • Send a librarian a question via instant messaging
    • Submit an e-mail request for reference assistance.
  • Borrowing books: information about what you need to borrow a book, video, CD, DVD, or periodical from the Library, how long you can keep it, and renewing of books and other materials.
  • Circulation Desk: located at the entrance of the Library, the Circulation Desk is where you will check out books, ask questions about loan periods, ask about books not found on the shelf, and renew books you have checked out. It is also the location of books placed on reserve.
  • Classes: a variety of library classes (some online) are available for credit to teach the basics of research and successful use of libraries and online resources.
  • Computers for Research: what equipment is available for library online research, where it is found, hours of service, how to print from the computers, and policies regarding usage.
  • California State University Long Beach Borrowing Privileges: students with current Long Beach City Card identification cards are allowed to borrow books from California State University Long Beach. Look for available materials before you go using Coast, the online catalog. Learn more about the California State University Long Beach Library.
  • E-Books: full-text electronic books and reference materials are now available through Voyager, the online catalog. There are over 11,000 e-books that can be read online. To find these e-books try a keyword search for "electronic books" (include quotation marks to search any phrase). You may also perform a keyword search with topical search term(s), adding a QUICK LIMIT of "E-Books" to retrieve all records for electronic books on your topic. From the resulting list of titles click on the title you want to read to view the record for that book. Then click on the "Link To Resource" to go to that book online. Select "View this e-Book," then click on the pages from the table of contents or index or any portion of the book listed on the far left of the screen to start reading, using the next page and previous page to navigate. To view an ebook from home you must have a username and password (see the passwords handout sheet).
  • Forms: any currently enrolled student may submit the following requests for free services:
  • Hours of Library Services: locations of libraries, hours of service, days closed for holidays, basic phone numbers for information, and maps of the campus and maps to the libraries.
  • Interlibrary Loan: free service for currently enrolled Long Beach City College students, staff, and faculty. Books and periodical articles not owned by the Long Beach City College Library are borrowed from other libraries for your use. See ILL FAQ page or online forms for more information on how to request a book or article. Telephone: (562) 938-4576 or (562) 938-4809.
  • Internet Resources: links to free sites on the internet for extra help in your academic pursuits, including reference materials and authoritative websites listed by subject.
  • Media Materials: you may search Voyager, the online catalog, for audio CDs, tapes, videos, and DVDs available in the Library for limited checkout. A large inventory of instructional videos and DVDs is also available for viewing at the Media Desk of the Liberal Arts Campus Library. • Online Databases: here you will find full-text articles from magazines, newspapers, and academic journals, subject indexes for articles and books, and websites for statistics, business information, and encyclopedic and biographical information. These databases are for the use of currently-enrolled Long Beach City College students only and require passwords (available at the Reference Desk). You may find materials through these other library catalogs that you would want to request through our Interlibrary Loan service.
  • Periodicals: the Library holds a select number of magazines, newspapers, and academic journals in print format. You will need to know the call number to find the periodical on the shelf. Searching for a title in Voyager, the online catalog, will show if a title is held in the Library and what the call number is. Many more full-text articles can be found online through the Library's subscription databases (see Online Databases).
