Locations & Hours
Computers for Internet research use and online database searching are available at both campuses from the opening of the Library until 15 minutes prior to closing. See Library Hours, Days Open, and Maps.
LAC Library (relocated to the basement of the E building)
Research computers at the LAC Library (Building E, basement) with printer access are available for use. Additional computers for word processing are available in the Open Access Computer Lab also located in the basement of the E building, across the hall from the library.
PCC Library
Research computers at the PCC Library (Building GG, second floor) are located near the Reference Desk and near the shared computer printer. There are computers available for research and word processing in GG113, the Open Access Computer Lab.
Hardware/Software
All computers have a cd-rom drive and USB ports for USB flash drives, but do not have disk drives or zip drives. You will have access to Office 2007 Professional, Acrobat Reader, Internet Explorer, Voyager, the Library's online catalog of materials, Library subscription online databases, and other College websites. We do not have scanners, digital cameras, fax machines, or a color printer. Printing is done remotely using a print card. See Printing
The Library does not have a typewriter, only computers with networked printers are available for your use.
LAC Library
Both PC and Mac computers are available at the LAC Library (Building E, basement). Microsoft Office 2007 Professional (MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) is installed on all computers. MS Word may be used to print documents, copy and paste information from the Internet, and to type simple college-related documents. Please bring your own USB flash drive to save your work, as needed.
PCC Library
A limited number of PC-compatible computers at the PCC Library (Building GG, second floor) are to be used for Internet research only. A computer with software for the sight-impaired is available. MS Word is not on the Library computers and is only available in the Computer Lab, Room GG113. Wordpad is available for simple recording of information. Please bring your own USB flash drive to save your research work, as needed.
Printing
Printing in the Library is done remotely from the computers. When you press "PRINT" from your computer, the information is sent to a central printer. To obtain your printout you must first have a print card. All printing is $.10 per page. Color printing is not available.
- Purchase a print card.
- To obtain a print card, insert four quarters in the slots of the card-dispensing machine. If you do not have four quarters, you may exchange a dollar bill for four quarters from the change machine. When you slide the tray containing the quarters into the machine, a card will be issued. DO NOT TRY TO INSERT A DOLLAR BILL until you first have obtained a print card with four quarters. Keep this card and continue to add value to it by inserting the card and dollar bills in the marked slots. The cost of the card is $.50, leaving $.50 of value on your card, or 5 pages worth of printing.
- Send selected page(s) from your computer.
- Look carefully at the pages you are sending to the printer (use "Print Preview" in Internet Explorer to determine which page numbers you want to print). Refunds are not available for blank or unwanted pages. When ready, select "PRINT" from your computer, as you normally would, to print the desired page(s). Note the computer number on the top of your monitor.
- Select your print job from the printer's queue.
- Go to the printer monitor next to the printer. Identify your print job and select it.
Insert your print card. The cost of the print job is subtracted from your card. All printed pages are $.10 cents per page. Don't forget to take your print card from the machine after the job has been sent to the printer.
Pick up your printed pages from the printer.

Computer Use Agreement
Welcome to the Long Beach City College Library. We are pleased you are here and have chosen to use the technology that is available to you. The Long Beach City College Library provides computers, software, and Internet access in order to assist you with your research and study needs. The staff is available to assist you when you have questions regarding your research, location of additional materials, or experience problems with your computer.
If you choose to use these computers, you will be agreeing to use them responsibly. You will also be agreeing to abide by the following policies established by the Board of Trustees and administered by the Dean of Student Affairs regarding computer use and behavior.
Students are subject to disciplinary action for misuse of any computer technology, including equipment, software, network or Internet access. This includes non-compliance with any policy, regulation, rule, or guideline developed by any segment of the college that relates to computer technology.
Students are subject to disciplinary action for willful disobedience to directions of College officials acting in the performance of their duties; violation of College rules and regulations; as well as disorderly, lewd, indecent, or obscene conduct.
While the vast majority of computer users "do the right thing," a few individuals, unfortunately, ignore these policies and rules. If violations occur, any staff member or student assistant may approach you and verbally ask you to comply or issue a written warning. They have the authority and expectation to do so. In addition, if necessary, they are authorized to call for assistance from Campus Police.
As a campus community, we all have responsibilities to assure a collegial atmosphere. If you have any questions regarding these expectations, please contact either of us. We will be happy to speak with you.
Thank you for your cooperation!
