Library Liaisons to Departments and Faculty

Your liaison will help you purchase books you would like to see in the collection, add Web pages to help students, and other programs to improve library services. We are happy to teach an individual instructor or an entire department about library tools and resources, or answer a question you might have. Please let us know how we can better serve you and your departments.

Library Services

  • Ask a Librarian
    • Chat live online with a reference librarian from a library that participates in the QuestionPoint 24/7 Reference Service. Note: Your question may not be answered by a LBCC librarian.
    • Send a librarian a question via instant messaging
    • Submit an e-mail request for reference assistance.
  • E-Books: Full-text electronic books and reference materials are now available through Voyager, the online catalog. There are over 11,000 e-books that can be read online. To find these e-books, try doing a keyword search for "electronic books" (include quotation marks to search any phrase). You may also perform a keyword search with topical search term(s), adding a QUICK LIMIT of "E-Books" to retrieve all records for electronic books on your topic. From the resulting list of titles click on the title you want to read to view the record for that book. Then click on the "Link To Resource" to go to that book online. Select "View this eBook," then click on the pages from the table of contents or index or any portion of the book listed on the far left of the screen to start reading, using the next page and previous page to navigate. To view an ebook from home, you must have a username and password (see the passwords handout sheet).
  • Library Orientations for your classes: Schedule an hour with a librarian to orient your class to using the Library, Voyager, and online databases for full-text journal articles. For more information call Liberal Arts Campus: (562) 938-4853 or Pacific Coast Camps: (562) 938-3028. See the online forms.
  • Interlibrary Loan: Free service for currently-enrolled Long Beach City College students, staff, and faculty. Books and periodical articles not owned by the Long Beach City College Library are borrowed from other libraries for your use. See ILL FAQ or online forms for more information on how to request a book or article.
  • Reserve Materials: Place books, copies of articles, and other material (from the Library collection or your own collection) on exclusive reserve for your class. See Reserve FAQ or online forms for more information on how to place an item on Reserve.
  • Borrowing Library Materials: Books normally circulate to faculty for 120 days; faculty loans are subject to recall when there are other requests for the materials. Check Voyager to view My Record to determine what materials are checked out to you.
The Long Beach City College Libraries have a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the University Library at California State University Long Beach enabling eligible students, faculty, satff, and administrators to use both libray systems. Please visit the Information Guide for Reciprocal Borrowers homepage for details and the established guidelines.
