CIRCULATION FAQ

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
About Borrowing LBCC Library Materials

Q. What do I need to check out library materials?

A. Your current student ID card is also your library card. Make sure you have a current semester student services sticker affixed to the back of the card to show current proof of enrollment. If you do not have or forget your student ID, we also accept your printout of classes plus your driver’s license or California ID.

Q. Who can check out library materials?

A. Current LBCC and CSU Long Beach students, faculty, and staff can check out library materials. Non-students and community members can check out items which are currently in print by depositing for the amount of the item in cash plus a $10, all refundable, deposit for each item checked out. Another option is to obtain a referral from any Long Beach Public Library. There is a limit of two (2) items per non-LBCC borrower. You need to show a set of IDs, your public library card and a picture ID to check out.

Q. How many items can I check out?

A. You can have up to 20 items on your card. Below is the breakdown of items into categories.

Q. Do you have current textbooks for check out?

A. Current textbooks are housed in our Reserve Collection. These books used in classes are left with the library by the instructors for their students. If a current textbook you need is not in our Reserve Collection, please talk to your instructor about placing a copy in the Reserve Collection.

Q. Can my library card be used anywhere else?

A. You can use your card to check out materials at the LAC library, PCC library, and CSU Long Beach (CSULB) library. The LBCC library has a reciprocal agreement with the CSULB library that allows borrowers to check out books and media. Reserve items, bound periodicals, remote access to electronic resources, and the library computer labs are not available to reciprocal LBCC borrowers. Interlibrary Loan, borrowing items outside of our library system, is available to LBCC students, faculty and staff for items not in our collection. Please refer to our Interlibrary Loan link.

Q. Where can I return library materials?

A. Books, pamphlets, and periodicals checked out at the LAC or PCC library can be returned at either library. Music CDs, CD-ROMs, Videos, College Catalogs, and Reserve items are returned to the library that they were initially checked out from. Items checked out at CSU Long Beach connected to reciprocal borrowing privilege must be returned at that institution.

Q. How can I renew library materials?

A. Only books and pamphlets are renewable. You can renew items in three ways: online, by phone, and in person. To renew online, access the library web site at http://voyager.lbcc.edu, select My Record from the top menu and follow the instructions. Be sure to click Exit Voyager for security after viewing your patron record. To renew by phone, call (562) 938-4231 LAC Circulation desk or (562) 938-3029 PCC Circulation desk. In addition, you can also stop by our Circulation desk any time during library open hours to renew materials. Items do not need to be present to renew in person. Please also refer to question “How many items can I check out?” for Circulation check out policy.
