Creating a Search Statement

Remember, our goal is to find research articles that you can relate to your patient's problems. Before we begin it is very important that you have collected detailed information about your patient. You will use this information in creating your own search statement.

The clinical vignette below contains elements of the type of information you may see in your patient's chart and your own interactions with your patient.

Donna Drake, 84 is anticoagulated with warfarin for chronic atrial fibrillation and was admitted for severe epistaxis. She takes medication for hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She lives in a senior apartment and continues to drive, although only short distances and in the daytime.
