The purpose of this assignment is to acquire skills in searching Voyager, LBCC Library Web-based catalog. This assignment also aims to introduce you to another library Web-based catalog system, such as SIRSI or WebPac. From LBCC Library Web site, click on the "Other Library Catalogs" button and select a link to various libraries Web-based catalogs, making sure that it is not Voyager.

LBCC Voyager is not launched yet. Please use the following online Voyager systems

To complete this assignment, you may need to do some editing before submitting the assignment to me. Please do not email your search results to me from the search screen; you need to either write down the citations (author, title, publication place and date of the item) or do some cut and paste and save the citations in a Word document.

1. Using Web-based catalog Voyager to search for items (items can be books, videos, pamphlets, etc.) in the Library collection.

2. Repeat the same searches using one other college or public library Web-based catalog of your choice.

Perform the different searches listed below. I need two complete citations for each search, one from Voyager, the other from another online catalog, for a total of 14 citations. Example of a citation:

• Search for items created by author: Alice Walker (Remember to always search by author's last name), select one citation.
• Search for items with the title: Cannery Row, select one citation.
• Search for items on the subjectof: cloning, select one citation.
• Perform a keyword search using these three words: television, violence, children, select one citation.
• Perform a call number search and find out which subject is related to this call number: HV6025, select one citation.
• Perform a course reserve search to find out which books are put in reserve by the department of Biology, select one citation.
• Perform an advanced search for a book with the word "California" in the title, whose author is Kevin Starr, and published in 1997. Use TAB to go to the different dialog boxes and select the appropriate field from the drop-down menu. List what fields you have selected from the drop-down menu, and list the full title of this book.

2. Discuss your search results with the two web-based catalogs. Mention your type of search (author, title, subject, keyword, etc, list the exact term (s) you typed in for your search, and the number of entries obtained. Point out any differences between the two systems. Which one is easier to use?
